This is Damien here. Can anyone please give me a brief feedback on NYFA, regarding the quality of training available, and the level of acceptance of the NYFA diploma in the Film making world.
Hello Damien,
I don't have experience with this institution, however you should visit LOAFS (Library of Annotated Film Schools) http://filmmaker.com/reviews.html
You'll see what other students who've attended their programs have to say.
I don't have anything to compare it to really, as I have not attended any other film school but overall the experience hasn't been too bad.
One thing that could stand for much improvement is the orginization. It seems like there is not much of clear communication between the people who run things and things can get confused easily.
The catalog kept talking about how much I would be on Universal's backlot but in the three months that I have been here I have been there about 8 times max.
Still its really cool to get to go at all.
The teachers are pretty great for the most part.
Fellow classmates are mixed of people who have passion and people who are there just to see what it's like and their folks had to much cash to spend.
I am not sure if this is universal of all film schools but it happens here alot.
Overall...I would say do it if you tour the place and like it. There are some other places to check out though and I suggest you do that first.
I've been to the 6 week workshop..
I really hated it.. but others liked it.
It was split in 3 classes.. each are 3 hours long.
The first class taught film theories. How a scene is made and can be good.
The 2nd taught how to use a 16mm camera (useful class)
and the third was editing.
But when it came to shoot, we would spend 9 hours doing so.
You spend a lot of time shooting so that's good.
I thought the lectures moved too slow but what do you expect for a class?
