Native Support for RED R3D files in Adobe!

RED just released plugins for Adobe After FX and Premiere that allow the programs to work natively with the raw R3D files that the RED camera shoots. This significantly improves the workflow on the PC with no additional software or 3rd party plugins, and it is free, although it does require CS4 and needs the latest updates for each of the applications. The plugins are avaialble on PC and on Mac.

The plugin works great in AfterFX allowing the importing of R3D files directly into the application, or through Adobe Bridge, or by importing a Premiere project file. I'm able to do my keying at 4K resolutions directlly from the R3D files without having to render them out to image sequences.

Currently they do not offer any specific tools within the applications that take full advantage of RAW nature of the R3D files, but they claim that this is only the beginning, so lets hope that they plan to have similar funtionality in dealing with the RAW data, as Photoshop currently has for RAW camera files.

This is a significant step in beefing up the post workflow with the RED camera, and even more so for the non Mac world.

The plugin is great. We had an opportunity to demo it for our members at RED Los Angeles User Group several months ago.
