My fake blood looks like grape jelly?

i used the corn syrup method with red and little blue food coloring and i put a little baking flower in it to try and make it thicker and a little chunky but when i put it in my refrigirator and took it out it looked exactly like grape jelly.

does anyone know a good or better recipe than that, that is pretty easy. Or am i jsut doing something wrong?
 
The recipe is quite "standard", I've seen fake blood made only in this way. Maybe it's the refrigerator...
