managing ideas?

I’m looking for ideas on organization and something different than the old index card trick. Is there something that gives us (the writer) an overall picture of our story? Has anyone seen or used anything? Sorry I’m not new at this it just seems like it

Hey Dave,

I use a program for the mac called Omnigraffle, it's a really cool piece of software that let's you create mind maps. Helps me keep track of my story.
It's on the mac, ipad and iphone.

Ounce I actually start writing I do it all in Scrivener, it's the best piece of software that I've used, and I've tried them all!

Do you know if there's a PC-compatible version?

What I'm really looking for is something tangible. I use software for writing, but I do all my planning/organizing with a pen and a stack of index cards.

I ordered something called Screenwriter Storyboard. It uses post-it notes instead of index cards. You stick them on a collapsable board so it's all setup next time you go to write.

Have you used it before? If so, did you like it?

Yeah, I've seen people use Screenwriter Storyboard, not really suited to me personally because of the amount of traveling I do.

PC Alternatives to Scrivner, have you tried Celtx? it's free and pretty similar.
