I plan on fillming a short that I wrote. I really want it to come out nice but i am limited to using mini DV. Is there an effect or a not costly software out there that enhances the quality of the mini DV picture to look more like film. sorry of confusing. :?

Hi,

You cannot make Mini DV look like film so dont try. If you want it to look more cinematic and not so "Studentish" Try a few small things.

Lighting. Tell your story dramatically through lighting. Whether it is a low key drama with pools of dark and light or whether it's soft and subtle. This all depends on your script and how you want to tell it. This, alongside with picking the right composition is what will make your Short more cinematic.
Two small details to use in camera is 1. Bring the aperture right down to reduce the depth of field and 2. Use some on the lens filters like a Sofx FX or Glimmer Glass to name a couple. This will reduce the edginess of the Mini DV.

Regards, James.
