Is it worth it to invest in a more expensive camera, or is this ok?

I currently own a DCR-SR82 and have a DCR-SR200 Sony Handycam at my disposal. It's a typical hard drive camera of normal camcorder quality. Recently I also bought a wide angle conversion lens for both of them. I just wonder if I am pursuing a career in filmmaking, if it is worthwhile to spend thousands on a nice camera, or if I could just get by using what I've got until maybe college/film school?
