Well I don't want to.. but let me explain first.

Me and my friends want to do a YouTube show much like Shane/Smosh/Fred or Nigahiga as they're up near the top subscribed lists of all time.

Well I got reviews from the WoW Forum and of course I got nothing but flamed because what else can you expect from a forum full of children. I'd like to ask you all though for your opinions on our show and what we can do to improve it.

Something is missing (besides hot chicks) lol. We're on a nearly deadly $0 budget as the camera and editing software cost enough on it's own.

I just want opinions/improvements/suggestions to make the show better or what direction I need to take it in to make it one of those most subscribed channels.

Before the heavy critiquing comes in.. remember.. it's not a serious drama or TV show, it's just funny/retarded skits.

Thank you for all the suggestions and your time reading this :)

Edit: I didn't give you guys the channel.. Fail...
(Also, please ignore the kid licks keyboard video that was just to see if he would do it, and try to watch them all and critique them all.)

My thinking is if you are already thinking about giving up, you should probably do it. Being that this is a passion-driven industry, quitting is not something that should ever enter your head, especially this early in your game.
I started pitching shows to networks 20 years ago. I've gotten far more Nos than yesses and have had plenty of shows stolen. Still, I continue to create and pitch today. The alternative would be for me to get a real job.. one that I am not passionate about.

no thank ya

Well I'm pretty sure I know what the problem is.

YouTube is a different audience. They enjoy the childish 12 year old kind of entertainment drama that you see on Fred/Smosh/Shane Dawson.

And honestly.. I've watched the videos over a couple times and it's just bad... the acting is beyond horrible and they all need to come down and have serious work overs.

I don't want to give up directing period. I probably should have stated that. I meant the show because I don't have any resources or money to work with and I can't get over how bad the acting is.

In the mean time I have some other ideas but I guess the lesson I learned is to not let this kind of thing set your mind in the mindset to "This will make money" because that sacrifices a lot of quality and you rush through every thing. It's only when other people critique it that you see where you went wrong.

yes, the acting was too bad to hang with and it was shot against a white wall. Content is king on youtube. Don't underestimate the audience... which is everyone. The bottom line is, make something you'd watch.
I've gone out of my way to make some of my clips top notch with productin value. They may get 10 thousand views. Then I'll upload a clip of me just being stupid and after a quarter of a million views youtube wants to enter a profit sharing deal with me. That's just how it is.

You'll have to eneter every new show idea as a labor of love. If not, it simply won't be good enough to sell.

Well maybe in time, if I can talk to them a bit it'll be like most long lived shows or series.

You know the shows you love in their 6th or 9th season and then you go back and watch the first episodes or season and think "how did I watch this back then.. it's just so bad compared to what it is today."

I mean hell.. Smosh is the 3rd most subscribed channel of all time and they get millions of views in days. They started out by uploading crap quality videos of themselves doing a Power Rangers Theme spoof in their room.

Besides the acting, I really can't see another problem with it. You can make any content good if you're acting like a complete retard. I mean overall, it's not for Oscar worthy content, it's YouTube. People enjoy watching other people act like idiots or like they're 12. Otherwise Shane or Fred wouldn't be so popular.

They aren't good actors but they're the most over-dramatic people i've ever seen when they're doing their skits and that makes it funny/appealing to watch.

Youtube gets more views at noon on weekdays than prime time tv ever did. It's as easy as making content people want to watch but not as easy as just "acting like a retard".
It's quick fix viewing. Again, this just means content is king. It doesn't have to tell a story. You could shoot your buddy in the melon with a roman candle and get a million views. Views are not the point. If wanting to start a show, you want a following. That will come in time through consistancy.
Thinking about quitting won't get ya that.
My advice? Out-do your last video with each new upload. If you are not proud of every new video and totally embarrassed by your last, you are not going anywhere.
