Horizontal Lines during playback with Quicktime on Imac G5

I've been exporting clips to my hard drive using Quicktime conversion into an .mov file. When I view them using Quicktime, I notice alternation light and dark horizontal lines during playback. Is this due to the Imac G5 not being an HDTV nor HD Monitor? Does it mean something is wrong with one or more of the CCDs?

What is the format of the original footage? I assume you're just doing a self-contained QT movie, eh?

If your footage is interlaced, that could cause it, because computer screens, unlike TV screens, are not interlace, but progressive. I think the Apple DVD player that comes with OS X has somewhere in a menu to turn on and off Progressive mode. Try that.
