Hi all,

Just had some questions regarding the purchase of a hidden/helmet camera for a documentary about an alpine search and rescue team. The camera is not being used for surveillance, but rather needs to fit in the documentary alongside MiniDV and perhaps some HD footage. Obviously I will not be able to achieve image quality of these kinds, but was hoping to get as close as possible.

The best one i could find, www.dogcamsport.co.uk/covert-hidden-camera-kits.htm, has a TVL resolution of 450 lines. I am not really familiar with this term, so was wondering if anyone could give me a comparison of how this footage might look as compared to say, MiniDV.

If anyone knows of any other cameras that may provide a better quality of image, please let me know.

Thanks for your help guys, Zan

Regular SD video is approximately 480 lines of resolution. That is to say that if you divided the screen into horizontal lines there would be 480 of them from top to bottom. The biggest issue with "lipstick cameras" (because of their size and shape) is that most, because of their compact size, only record two to three hundred lines of resolution. If you found one that has 450 then you are probably as close to standard definition as you're likely to get without strapping a dv camera to somebody's helmet.

Best of luck.
