Getting a new camera

Currently, I have a cheap panasonic and my birthday is coming up and I'm looking to get a new camera. I do a lot of filming from my boat with my friends and I'm looking for a camera that will be good for that. I visited the canon website and I'm looking for something in the price range of the Optura Xi, is this a good camera? If you have any suggestions please post here.

Canon's Xi is a solid camera, a buddy of mine has one, and as long as you have sufficient lighting, you'll have some really nice images with that cam, though you might also want to consider looking into Panasonic's GS400, I think it's priced about the same as the Xi, but offers a bit more.
