First film for the festival ...

Hi there,

I am new to film-making, mostly self-taught, done some workshops though...
I've got my first movie (a short documentary, 9 min) and consider sending it to a couple of festivals. Can you tell me in which format I can send the movie (if they say any DVD format). I am sorry for the question, is .avi and .mov a dvd format as well?

I tried to burn a dvd right from my Adobe Premiere 2.0 but somehow my dvd-player does not recognize it (writes "no cd"). I guess, it also depends on codec compatibility.

This time I shot the film with a very old-fashioned video-8mm camera. Guess, for any bigger screen than an average TV the quality will be not inspiring... is there some way to improve it? or at least to make the most of it?..

Also, can you recommend some festivals for beginners or students?

Thanks in advance! :)

9 minutes is general a little short for Film Festivals. The general length is about 30 minutes I think. But I may be wrong, so anyone that does actually know, please correct me. There are a couple of online film contests advertised around these boards that you could submit your doco to, if it's in mepg or similar format. But make sure that you have Broadband otherwise it'll take hours to upload, trust me I know.

Hope I've been of some help.

thanks for the reply... yes, of course, for a general documentary 9 min is, well, you know...

I should probably call it a travel janre clip... sounds horrible, I guess, bringing up all the cliches of aspiring beginers 8), but I hope it is a bit more creative and could be interesting for certain audience... There is no speech, only some musical soundtrack.
