Here is my first attempt at film making. Very little crew. The cast helped a little. Me and a buddy made this. I did most everything. Gotta start some where.

Do you want to make another film? What did you learn on this one that you would or would not do on the next one?

Kim I've just finishing filming 2 new short films. I got new cameras (BlackMagic Cinema's) so the quality is a lot better. All though I was forced to used af100's on one of those new shorts not my favorite camera. I'll tell you what I learned having no boom operator sucks and none of my friends want to do that job without ample pay! I'm going to invest in lav mics that should help. Plus I'm starting to get more actors and more locations available to use.

That sounds great. As far as sound goes sometimes you can find intern sound people. Sound is one of the biggest weaknesses. I know a sound guy in NYC that might be able to help with lower cost sound help but it would be depending on where you are located. People thinking they can fix sound in post is a big mistake often made by beginners. That and the other top biggest mistake is having friends act. You can generally find actors in schools that would be happy to work for less pay to get some experience and have a reel to show. Yeah if you don't get a good capture you can only do so much in post. Ive recorded music for years I just need to find a decent boom op. Most of my fellow film students aren't motivated enough to do such a job. Or most want to be paid well with ZERO experience or equipment. They want me to pay them to teach them how to use my equipment lol. No thanks

Do you wear a Rolex or drive a Mercedes ? Maybe offer to do it for their film if they will do it for you?

no I do not, most of them aren't serious enough to film something themselves the ones I know who do, don't care that much about audio anyways and either do mos voice over or mount a mic on the camera rig. I have one guy who occasionally will do sound but he is so unbelievably bad. He even joined school with us and just does such piss poor work. He can't get off his phone long enough to hold the mic anywhere close. Half the time the recorder isn't recording when he swears it is. He always overdrives the signal. If he didn't ruin so many takes itd be almost comical. I'll get a decent crew some day until then, it's mic stands and lav mics
