Hi,

Does anyone know how to convert a .jpg file to fit the screen of Final Cut Pro? The two pictures that I gonna use are 606x221 and 787x336, but I need them to fill the space of the entire screen.

I appreciate any help!

Those are not standard video sizes. We'll need more information to get this fixed proeperly.

What codec are you using to edit with in FCP? Where did you get these from? Did you scan them or download them or get them from someone, or did you make them yourself from scratch?

720x480 is standard definition video.
1280x720 is standard high definition "720" video.
1920x1080 is standard high definition "1080" video.

You could just drop them into your Sequence, double click to open into the Viewer, go to the Motion tab, and increase the Scale (size) until it fits the full Canvas window. But, as explained below, this may not give very good results.

Quick fix would be to use Photoshop or some other application that has the ability to change the image sizes to the size of the video format you're editing in with FCP. But again, as explained below, there are draw backs.

Yet here's the rub, increasing the size/resolution of an image will almost always take away at least "some" of the original clarity.

Thanks and help again

Thanks and help again

Hi Ben

First, I would like to thank you for your help. The information that you gave me was enough to figure out how to solve my problem with the picture’s size in Final Cut Pro. But as a new user I am facing a new problem that I need to solve as soon as possible. Actually, I already entered in your website and looked for tutorials (and I found) but didn’t resolve the question that I have.

I have footage from HVX saved in my external hard drive and I can’t import it to Final Cut Pro. I don’t know why! I tried different things but nothing worked.

The INFO about the folder is:

56 GB inside the main folder (so I guess the footage is there)

Two folders inside the main one:
Fcp project
Footage P2 MXF

Inside fcp project there are two files (supposed to be exported from final cut pro), but when I open them they appear as media offline (I tried to connect them but I couldn’t.)

Inside Footage P2 MXF
CONTENTS
AUDIO
CLIP
ICON
PROXY
VIDEO

Can you save me again? I really need that one!

Many Thanks!!!

Lucas

In FCP's Log & Transfer window, the top left, click the little folder icon, that will bring up a dialog box that you show FCP where your MXF footage is.

Here's what you should have from the HVX:
Create a folder on your media drive (not system drive)
Name it something meaningful.
Copy into that folder, from the HVX, the CONTENTS folder and the LASTCLIP.TXT file. Do not rename them, they must stay perfectly in tact, side by side!

Then as per above, point FCP to the CONTENTS folder. Problem is 2 things; first, you renamed the CONTENTS folder, rename it back, all upper case letters. Second, you don't have the LASTCLIP.TXT file. Sometimes FCP will work without it, but sometimes it won't. Not sure why, but technically you are supposed to have it there, too.
