I know that most of the film conventions and most of the world's film industry is over in the US, but is anyone out there prepared to do film-related workshops over here in South Africa? The best thing that we can have is a bi-annual series of workshops hosted by our local filmmaking initiatives by the producers of the "DV8" project. However, to take part in these workshops, you have to already be involved in the project, and they only select roughly three scripts for production per year. Furthermore, you also have to have been selected by them as a DP or a director for a specific project if you want to get into a workshop. We also have vitually no film-related expos or conventions over here, only home theatre-related stuff where the salesmen try to convince you that the single-chip consumer camera they have on special for the show is better than the latest 3-chip HD camera from the US. The last expo that we had here in this country was really for professionals only - they treated students like we weren't even there. Will someone out there please help!!!!
