Hey,

New to the forum. I just recently shot my first project on film (Super 16 Kodak 7217). I'm used to working primarily with digital+lens adaptor. Just a little nervous about my exposure, especially in a scene where I had the talent backlit by light coming in from a window and then I filled the face with some soft light from a kino (2 stops under). I wanted the scene to be lit as if it was available light coming from the window. Just a bit nervous that 2 stops under is too dark. I like the convenience of being able to see what you’re getting.

Two stops under for a heavily backlit face is usually fine if you want that look. It sort of depends on how hot the backlight is because you want some dynamic range and contrast -- if the backlight isn't really hot, then an underexposed face may feel like the shot is underexposed in general, whereas a strong backlight provides the bright highlights for the shot and your face is then more filled-in than keyed, so to speak, so being under by two stops is fine.
