If it's anything like here in the U.S., a production company is just like any other business. Start with your local city government to see what kind of license, taxes, and other permits you'll need. In Los Angeles for example, I need a city business permit, a resellers permit, a DBA (doing business as), and pay a multitude of taxes both city and state. And if you incorporate, that's a whole other ball of wax on top of the first ball of wax. Make sure before you start, see if the Canadian government has any tax handbooks on starting a business. It can get messy!
