FCP Freeze Frame Question

I know you can make a still from a frame, but I was wondering if there was a certain way of saving that still and exporting to PhotoShop. Does anyone have any idea about this? I have tried to do that and have not been able to. When I open it in PhotoShop it is blank. Am I doing something wrong, missing a step, or just stupid? haha

mark in/out in timeline. export as quicktime and select still image, then select file type (png, jpeg, etc.) save to desktop, or where ever, and open it in photoshop.

i've always had a problem with the fields being "offset" in photoshop. a quick fix (although maybe not right) is modifying the speed slow enough so the fields aren't so skeetchy in the still image. import back into FCP and you have a perfect image.

Even easier...
there is a shortcut command to accomplish the same in one move.

Simply stop the playback in your viewer over the appropriate frame... then hold the shift key and push "N"... FCP will create a still frame for you.

You can export that single frame later if you wish for a still picture image. but this method will give you a better still image than setting the in & out... which sometimes produces a jitter/blur... which results in a difficult photoshop image.

If you don't want to remember keyboard shortcuts, just park your playhead on the frame you want, hit "save as", then choose "still image" from the drop-down menu. This saves the image as (i believe) a .png and the image will be two consecutive interlaced frames. If there is any movement in the frame, you will see the jitter, which is alternating lines from two different frames, 1/60th of a second apart. In photoshop, go into the filters menu, choose the video filters, and select "de-interlace". Photoshop will then throw away every other line, and interpolate the missing lines, creating a much clearer picture. You can choose whether to interpolate based on odd or even lines.

can anyone tell me if you can make a freeze frame from scrolling text in fcp6? and if so, how to do it? cuz i srsly spent two class periods in school trying to figure it out and i can't. anyone got some knowledge?
