Controversy Vs. Explicity

Hello everyone,

would really appreciate opinion and advice on this pilot teaser of the record label. We received some remarks by random people that the message of the video is "too explicit", meanwhile the idea was the controversy. As some words popping up in the vid are names of the bands. Another remark was "too fashionable for record label", "looks like advertising for luxury perfume" etc.

Your advices will help for future videos. thank you!

There are three types of critiques.

1. Those who know nothing of the medium and can give a layman's opinion
2. Those who can tell you when what is wrong but don't know how to fix it
3. Those who know the medium and can tell you how to fix it

It is hard to find the third and sometimes you have to pay for it.

When people say "too fashionable for record label", "looks like advertising for luxury perfume," they sound like #2.

Art/film is communication. Obviously, if you meant for this to be for a record label, something got lost in translation.

This video for MSTRKFT is both fashionable and sexually suggestive but sticks with the band's brand to a T. http://youtu.be/kEfKBEWGQwg

Thanks, Victor

For sure, we have to find what works and what not as we do the first steps in this movie-making direction. The thing is we know what we like and what kind of visionary we want to delivery. Maybe we just too step-ahead? :) as everybody in this area are get used to see shabby musician when we speak about "indie"....
hm...room for meditation...

Go with it. Make a couple more, one for each recording artist, using their best hook (music video clip) and your label identity to open/close. The important thing is distribution and repetition. Get it played a million times in clubs, cable TV. Here's a link to my directory of Publicity A-Z which includes music p.r., video and ringtone distributors. Ground Zero, Hype Machine, JGER.com, Mashable, Musicadium, etc.
