Choosing A VTR

I know this could possibly be posted in the Newbie Section but because it deals with Final Cut so closely I figured it would be best if I posted here.

So here's the deal I'm decidedly building my own rig, camera, editing station the whole bit. One thing I've noticed is that information concerning what camera is better than the next is pretty easy to find. However, what I'm interested in is the VTR. I know that this piece of machinery is one of the most important parts of getting your footage to edit.

With that being said, any suggestions for VTRs? Any ones I should avoid like the plague? I will be most likely shooting on a Canon XH A1 or a Sony HVR-V1U. Thanks for all your help and suggestions.

Mini-DV decks are all nice, not many "bad" ones around anymore, since it's old technology. Some folks get a super cheap DV cam from the discount store and use it as a deck. Works fine, much cheaper.

I'd look at decks by major brand names. Anything from a major well known brand will work just fine.
