China Balls

I am shooting a dinner table scene for a 16mm project. I figured the best way to light was to use a china ball. The bulbs I have are 300watt and the stock is 500t. Is 300 too much? I am going to skirt them to cut of spill but I figured the 300 will give me a good stop on the lens.

Also on a side not when using practicals I have always accented them with a diva light most of the time and have used 100watt bulb. I thought that it might be easier to start using stronger bulbs like 250watts that way I can save time with set up and also not have to worry about another light being in the shot. I assume with the new stocks this is more of a reality.

300w may or may not be too bright, it's hard to tell -- that's why you carry a small selection and why it doesn't hurt to run the line through a dimmer. But certainly you can always stop down a little.

Same goes for practicals, I also generally start at 100w or so but it just depends on a lot of things, like the density of the shade, the distance to the actor, whether the practical is in the foreground or background, etc.
