Canon XL1 or Panasonic AG-DVX100?

Just wondering which camera gives better quality, and if so how much better?

'Quality' is difficult to measure, since a lot of it is subjective. Personally I'd go for the DVX100 unless you're going to stick anything other than the standard lens on the XL1: many people I know bought an XL1 'because of the interchangeable lenses' but then never used anything other than the one that came with it.

It might be a somewhat more difficult choice with the XL2, as that also has a true 16:9 CCD... I've never quite figured out whether the DVX100 does as the footage I've edited from it has been a mix of 4:3 and 16:9 and it doesn't have the obvious scaling artifacts of an electronic 16:9 mode.

DVX does not have native 16:9 CCDs, but does a remarkable job with it's "squeeze" mode. I just upgraded from DVX100a's which I loved, to HVX200's, which I love even more!

DVX for sure. And if you go with the DVX, check out DVXuser.com, the BEST place to go for info and support on these puppies.
