I have no idea what the cable is called. It is connected to a tripod and has inner pins.

wow it's the first time that I've seen something like this.
What does it do? It just connected to the tripod?

Looks like it is one of Sony's old LANC style control cables. I don't think I've seen those since people started really using DSLRs. They used to be pretty common with home video cameras.

Not really that popular anymore especially with WiFi capabilities. Were big in the late 90s early 2000s.
