Submissions are now open for The 2021 Film And Video Poetry Symposium.

Poets, writers, filmmakers, media artists, and digital artists are called to submit their work to the 4th Annual Film and Video Poetry Symposium.

The film festival and symposium will celebrate and screen a large scope of film and video projects developed primarily through the medium of poetry. FVPS will host a media gallery, a series of panels, guest speakers, and public dialogues regarding film and video poetry over the course of the symposium.

The Film and Video Poetry Symposium will accept submissions of poetry films, filmpoems, digital-poetry, poetry video, choreopoems, Cin(E)-Poetry, spoken word film and videos, videopoems, visual poetry, poetrinca, media poetry, and film and video works that are driven by onscreen text.

The Film and Video Poetry Symposium also calls for experimental film and video work that explores language and/or literature whether it is oral, written, visual, or symbolic. This includes non-narrative work and the avant-garde. We strongly consider work that challenges traditional and current visual communication methods while continuing to function as a mode for exploring narrative forms and personal expression.

The Film and Video Poetry Symposium also calls essay film, works of epistolary cinema, documentaries, animation, performance art film and video, and oratorical works. Lastly, The Film and Video Poetry Symposium seeks virtual reality projects, new technologies, 360° Video, digital art, video mapping, installation proposals, and video art presentations that feature, hybrid, or contain strong aspects of poetry.

DEADLINE: September 4, 2021 11:59PM PST
SUBMISSION FEE: $20 USD

Can anyone enter this contest, or they need to be from a specific location?

What a lovely idea! Would you be kind to come back and post the winners here as well? I would love to go through the work of many talented artists!

Is there a category for students? Or only professionals can attend this?
There is not a category for students// and student films are programmed along side works created across the experience spectrum. Audience is democratized: meaning there is no red carpet, no vip section, no ticket sales, and all events are free. Venues have been world class. The Film and Video Poetry Society has hosted symposium events with The Los Angeles Center for Digital Art, The Boston Court Performing Art Center, The Getty Villa Los Angeles, Arts on Site NYC, The Sheen Center for Thought & Culture NY, Cinema Kosmos, Moscow, PAM Performance Space in Highland Park, Ca., and the Revive Theater Santa Monica. In 2020, FVPSociety transformed a parking lot into a safe outdoor cinema in Los Angeles, Ca. Though seating was limited because of the public health crisis, all age groups and experience levels attended and were welcomed.

I have added this to our Calendar.
I saw that you have recently joined our Network. You can also create an Event there for a wider exposure.
The organizers and myself are not quite sure when in November the event will be... Meaning, we don't know the dates and have not made a decision on venues. Must I know those things to post an event?

You can add the deadline which is September 4 to the event :) And you can then create another event with the rest of the details
