I've been looking around for some new editing software and decided to go with Final Cut Pro. The problem ive been having is that it seems apple only carries the product in its studio package. If i had the funds i would spring for that but with a 1300 dollar price tag its not looking so good....I was wondering if final cut pro was out there to purchase by itself...and if so where i could possibly get it? If anyone could help...it would be a great help....thanks...

Final Cut Studio is only about $200-ish more than Final Cut Pro was by itself. Point is, if you can't afford Studio now, you probably wouldn't be able to afford FCP if it was sold by itself. Just a bit of marketing trivia.

Final Cut Express would be a cheaper option, too.

i agree with ben. FCExpress is an often overlooked option. people that are first getting into it usually think they need FCP, but most of the time, they don't need the few extra things FCP has to offer.
of course, you don't get soundtrack pro, motion, color, or DVD studio pro
another issue is that FCE does not have the log and capture feature that FCP does (which I definitely could not live without)

also, don't forget about the academic discount. FCStudio is only $699, and FCE is only $149

when you think about how much it cost to edit 20 years ago, $699 is pocket change

Final Cut Express actually does come with SoundTrack 1.5 and LiveType 2. And now supports keyframing. But do your homework, FCE is pretty limited in various ways, compared to FCP.

There's also the Academic discount for Final Cut Studio. Only difference is the license agreement make you agree to not make any money off of it, and I believe the academic licenses are not upgradable all the time.
