Bum-Bum-BUM! Is there an official term for this? Sources?

We've all heard them: the 'crescendos' or short bursts in a score, that are meant to move, or evoke an emotional response, often marking a climax or shocking moment in film and tv/gameshows/videogames. Is there another term used to describe these sounds? Are there free/paid sources online or elsewhere? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
 
I may be wrong, but I've always heard them referred to as "orchestra hits"
 
They're also called "stingers" by some people.
