In outdoor situations with the sun as a backlight or interiors with a strong backlight do you usually cup your hand over the lumisphere to block that light from entering your meter? I've seen pictures of many DP's in outdoor locations shading the meter and read that sometimes the sun or a strong backlight can interfere with your reading so its good to block it out. But can't this also lead to a false reading since your shading some of the light out?

Thanks

Yes, I meter the sun separately from the shade (shading the dome with my hand when necessary) and then determine how much of a split I want to give the exposure. I don't want the meter to be averaging the two on its own.
