I need a real good piece of software that'll trim an audio track I have and mute some of the background music out of it, any ideas?

You should be able to trim audio bites in your video editing program.

If you still feel that you need an audio editing program:

Pro Tools
Logic
Cubase
Digital Performer
Peak
Nuendo

There is no way to eliminate music mixed in with audio tracks.

Any audio editing software program can be of use. First select the audio file or track of your choice and then using "trim" command, delete or trim the unselected portion of the track or audio file. Found this option in FlexiMusic Wave Editor Software. “Trim" command permanently removes everything outside the selection. Regarding muting background music, can only minimize the background music, but cannot completely mute it off.
