The Last Black Unicorn
Every screenwriter needs the right tool to work with in order to unlock his full potential. After talking with a few screenwriters from our community, I have made a selection of the top 4 free screenwriting software that you can use in 2022 to create your first script:
1. Causality
Perhaps one of the most popular screenwriting software, Causality helps you create your story using visual colorful blocks. The software allows you to organize your ideas in a simple and modern way, by using layers. The software provides support for over 100 languages and comes with a spell checker.

2. Fade In
One of the main features of Fade In is that it allows real-time collaboration, extensive screenplay formatting and tools for outlining, organizing and navigating. This screenwriting software was used to write popular movies and TV Shows, such as Knoves Out, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi and Cernobyl. The software has a premium version, however, its functionality is the same as the free version. The only difference is that the free version has a watermark on the print/PDF output and it gives a pop-up message to encourage purchasing after you will write the first 10 pages. Fade In is available for Mac, Windows and Linux.

3. Highland 2
This software is only available for Mac users and it has many useful features that can allow you to track all changes in different colors, templates for scripts, novels, outlines, and much more. This software allows you to start writing down your idea and save it in a professional looking script.

4. Arc Studio Pro
Arc Studio Pro is popular because of its clean and distraction-free interface. You can start typing your ideas and the software will organize it for you. This software has a collaboration feature, intuitive drag-and-drop and color coding system. The software has a free version, which allows you to create up to 2 scripts and it provides a watermark on the PDF Export. There are two premium options that provide you with the full features of this software. Arc Studio is available for Mac and Windows.

Helpful Tool: Milanote
You can easily preview your story structure with Milanote. The interface of this software is clean and easy to use. The free version allows up to 100 notes, images or links, 10 files uploads and unlimited shared boards. However, there are two premium unlimited versions available, for a modest price, for one person or for an entire team.

This software is best used to write down ideas, rather than write the whole script. You can write the logline, script ideas and most important scenes.

What is your favorite screenwriting software?

Milanote reminds me of Trello. It's good to have an app to keep notes, even if the free version only allows 100 notes.

I honestly did not try any of these but after reading your post and viewing the videos, I would give Fade In a chance. Mostly because it was used by the ones who wrote the script for Star Wars.
