2023 VALLEY FILM FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES WINNING FILMS

(LOS ANGELES – August 10, 2023) – The Valley Film Festival (“VFF”) located in L.A.’s filmmaking epicenter, the Valley, announced today the festival’s winning films. VFF is an indie-only (non-struck films) festival, which ran August 1st – 8th, 2023 at the prestigious Laemmle NoHo 7 art house theatre in North Hollywood. The winning features, documentaries, shorts, and videos all fell into either the top “10 Degrees Hotter” or the “Short Film” awards categories. All awards were announced at indie Hennessey Studios by VFF director Tracey Adlai. Tracy said, “Our programming is limited and highly-selective to encourage community and I couldn't be prouder of our village of filmmakers for showing up and supporting their peers and colleagues this week, especially in this current climate of uncertainty.”

Everybody Wants to Loved won the feature-narrative prize and its director Katharina Woll said, “I am honored and thrilled to earn this prize. My thanks to Tracey, all VFF volunteers, and fellow filmmakers who inspire us all as global artists.” Sisters of Ukraine won the feature-documentary prize and its director Mike Dorsey added, “To portray the Spanish NGO joining forces with the Ukrainian convent of sisters to save children and families from Russia’s onslaught was profoundly touching. We are indebted to the VFF for spotlighting this cause.” The short-film (narrative) prize went to Alex Beckes’ That’s Our Time. Alex said, “Thank you to the Valley Film Festival and its organizers for being a true community for indie filmmakers like myself.” Awards are detailed in the below list.

About the Valley Film Festival (Community + Culture)
Now in its 23rd year, the 2023 Valley Film Festival (VFF) is a non-profit arts project of Community Partners. We support local/global independent films only (non “struck” films) and indie voices. VFF has no affiliation with the Alliance of Motion Picture and TV Producers (“AMPTP”). VFF is notsponsored fiscally or in-kind by member companies of the organization and the films showcased are not produced by AMPTP companies. Instead, VFF helps advance storytelling, furthering the education, production, and exhibition of indie films. We do this by: having an affordable entry point ($8.18 USD), so filmmakers everywhere can participate; awarding call-for-entry scholarships to filmmakers in countries affected by conflict; supporting locally-produced films through our signature “Made in the (818)” program; mentoring filmmakers through their careers via our Focus Onseries of panels/events; and providing a platform, in the heart of Hollywood, to showcase and share indie stories that matter.
