I think this is more a topic for video editing and the adobe premiere part of this forum i don't really think it falls under special effects cause this is achieved with filters with video editing suites i'm sure.
Actually i think your wrong there i know about a couple of hundred movies made with 3d studio max, 3ds max was originally created for architects but they thought it was too complicated for them so they used auto CAD for 2D design. Just because people prefer to use 3ds max with games design...
Well been wanting to team up with some people and exchange ideas and video art to make something CGI (screwing around) but working with someone else while, So is there anything you might have as in skills which we could exchange with each other and make something cool with our knowledge let me...
If i had to do that effect myself i would either use flash mx or Adobe premiere but i would probably use flash mx, all there doing is adding transparent .png pictures over the video and making the video and pictures look live.
Buy some jip rock from your DIY store at least thats what we call it over here, you should be able to punch through that if you weaken it with water. Jip rock is designed for walls so it should work great and is afforadble but the DIY to make it look like a room i leave to you.
Adobe premiere, Flash 8, 3ds max or maya should be a good place to start in the line special effects but it takes lot of learning in order to use these applications so i would read up on the ethical part of special effects before you start spending cash on something you may never use cause the...

Think of a greenscreen like a metaphor of a really nice looking wall (could be a car park) that only has one colour and has perfect lighting, some people even just use white a4 paper attached to the wall with nice light stopping all shadows. Cause to pull that effect off there can be no shadows...
Well look if you have money for this production and you are serious as you sound to me, Then i can't see the hospital or the birth clinics refusing you. I'll explain, Some hospitals have replica holsters for the men to wear so they can see what it's like for the womens perspective being pregnant...
Whats your idea cause i've seen every kinda horror movie you care to mention, kinda my favourite genre, cause when you aint specific it gets me confused for ideas and i wouldn't want to share my horror ideas cause it might creep people out on the forum.
Are we talking about a CGI rocket or just a normal rocket made out of materials, personally speaking i think it would be more easy creating a GGI rocket rather than an actual rocket cause i have a degree in CGI not rocket science, wasn't trying to be cheeky sry if it came out that way :D
P.s...
