    New arrival.....

I would have to agree with Lazlo on the Vegas nod. I'm using a trial of it right now (coming from a background in Avid FreeDV and Premiere Pro) and have to say that I find it very powerful. I was trying to be as impartial as possible with my original post, but I find that harder the more I use...

    New arrival.....

It's hard to recomend something without knowing what you want for features (only you can decide that) Vegas does have it's roots in music, so you might like that (but it's not considered industry standard so you could potentially lose out on gigs if clients expect something else). I hear Avid...

Ambient/Chill Out, New Age and Dance music available.

Hrm... I just looked at both of these sites and neither site seems to list any kind of usage policy or legalities about royalties and usage of the audio tracks (except for the Creative Commons ones on free-loops should be fine though as you can find that license agreement elsewhere). I myself...

    low budget look?

I personally would think low budget is sort of an opinion. Someone who likes to see lots of explosions and fire and things being blown up might consider anything without those to be low budget. Someone else might think that a badly acted and/or directed movie is low budget. I personally think...

My Entry for Conan O'Brien's Commercial Contest. Thoughts?

I thought the sound was alright, but could have been warmed up a bit. I think you were trying to go for a late-night kind of lighting, but I just felt it was overly dark and could have been lightened up a bit. I also thought the swearing was not needed and really turned me off from it... at...

Top Ten must see films for aspiring directors?

I think Bladerunner is a great film and has so much in terms of visuals. What Dreams May Come is another great one (and my all-time favorite :-P). Of course, I personally think it's a good idea to watch the worst movies of all time. Sure, you can see how the great's visualized some of the...

    best Camera for $5000

I personally would say if your budget calls for a 5k camera, don't get one. Instead, get a somewhat cheaper camera and invest in a good sound setup and if you can afford it, some lights, an editing program, etc. Making a good film does not mean you need a high end camera. After all, a camera...

    Need some camera help...

I agree with UncleBob. I think it was David Lynch who said "Films are 50% visual and 50% sound." A good sound setup will go along way in any video you produce (even Youtube videos :-P) Everything else UncleBob said I also agree with. Lighting is another way to easily make your film look more...

    Film or Book Suggestions?

Hey all, So I haven't seen on this forum any topics about suggestions for good films or books for people to watch/read. I think this could be a really good addition to the forum because I feel a good part of making films is to watch and read to pick up on different techniques, styles, ideas...

    Film Fest Quality?

Overall I was very impressed with it. I thought at some points it kind of felt like the central theme was a bit missing, but you usually brought it back rather nicely. I can't say I was too fond of all the shaking and fast zooming in/out, but it did work for the style and wasn't too annoying...

    Thinking of trying an experiment...

Hello all, So I'm working on a script right now which is probably best to be described as a mockumentary. I'm currently working on a re-write of the script because I'm not satisfied with it. What I feel is the biggest trouble right now is that there isn't enough "action" mixed in with the...

    Is this a good deal?

Where is this deal? If it's online I highly suggest you look up reviews of the websites and do some research as to the legitamacy of the website. There are a lot of sites that sell cameras at a seemingly huge discount, but they strip all the accessories out of the package, even the hand strap...

    Asking for opinions/comparisions/differences

First of all, let me say hello! It's been a long time since I've been on the forum as I've been busy. Now, second let me say that I will do my best to keep this as far away from a "which camera gives me everything for 50 bucks!" thread. I already have my main camera, and am getting ready to...

Shooting live concert, best way to get clean sound?

I would think the board would be able to adjust that for you, but if you have a mixer that has a line input, that couldn't hurt I would think. Either way, you should theoretically be able to normalize in post, but if you can do it right before post, that would be best I would think.

Shooting live concert, best way to get clean sound?

If you can't plug into the sound board (This really is the best option) then place your sound recording in the back of the venue. Make sure you have a good muff on your mic to keep from the lows distorting too much. You can throw one of your cameras back there to get a wide shot as well. In...

    On The Run.

Re: On The Run. No offense, but that sounds a lot like the Bourne movies. I personally would try and stray away from something like that as it might be considered a copy (although we all know it wasn't intended as that). I think the biggest question you need to think about right now is, is...

Composers Read This! Value your music!

I'm a filmmaker and not a composer here. Personally, I don't expect free music. If someone offers free music or they are willing to work for cheap for the exposure, I wouldn't turn them away (hey, most of the stuff I do now is bawsically for exposure). I don't really know how many filmmakers...

    Script development

That sounds like a lot for seven minutes! A good challenge! :D Any way, my suggestion would be to download the program Celtx. It is scriptwriting software and is pretty good (freeware, so even better!). Mess around in that (one page of script formatting is about 1 minute). Then when...

Does anyone know anything about German Cinematography?

Take a look at The Cabinet of Doctor Caligari. German impressionism that helped defined the horror/thriller genre.
