It does true 24p in NTSC mode? ...and it isn't a pulldown? (I don't know much about Canon cameras so I'm asking.) I know the DVX100 had some issues early on with lists exported out of Premiere Pro because of the pulldown issue. I think FCP may have handled that better...but there are people...

It sounds like you're good to go to me. Save out a freeze from FCP and you can cut out the foreground object, take the color out of the background...add an outline, whatever you want. Photoshop has to be the most critical tool for video production that can't load a video clip...

I answered your PM as well, but I suspect that the camera that shot the footage is needed to feed it into the system. The DVX-100 has a method for encoding that pulldown info and the NLEs that I've seen have a "project setting" or separate "mode" of some sort to handle it properly. I'd check...

I had no idea there were plain old VHS decks with FireWire...I know there are DVHS decks with FireWire... In my opinion, I'd find a reasonably good VHS deck and look for a converter box. Canopus and several others make analog to DV (and back) converter boxes that are also handy for viewing...

Well, GuyGraphics is a pretty dependable source for this type of info...and I've heard this before, but I'm not sure why it needs to be turned off. I am not running any multi-processor Xeons at the moment, so I have no recent experience to draw on... Sorry, not helpful I know...
