how to set up a boom mic for three cameras?

Without a lot more info about the shoot/shot (indoors/outdoors, talking heads/action, etc.) it's very hard to give advice. First, the 2020, although a nice mic, is not meant for sound for picture. So get/rent a shotgun mic or a couple of lavs. Second, why is the different sound from the...

    answer quicky please!

Although very basic (not a lot of options, minimal effects), iMovie does a decent job. For an interface the Canopus the ADVC-55 goes for about $200. Again, very basic but does a nice job.

    sound design--Voices through a wall

To summarize from previous posts, worldizing the sound by playing the scene through a quality speaker set-up and re-recording with a quality recording set-up will give you the most natural sound. This is a common practice amongst sound designers. The beauty of modern DAWs is the flexability...

is the mic that comes on an xl1 good?

As a rule of thumb remember that, for the most part, the camera manufacturers are focusing on (pardon the pun) the visual aspects of their products, so the audio capabilities will not be of the same quality. This includes the mic, the mic pre-amps and the audio AD/DA converters. If nothing...

    Sweetening, Mixing, and Composing ?

Re-recording (postproduction sound mix) is a true artform. It requires great ears, great speakers and a great room. The most difficult part is translation - it has to sound good in 5.1, stereo and mono and has to sound good in the theatre, at home (with an infinite combination of speakers...

    Mic suggestions?

The SGM-1X is a short shotgun, the SGM-2X is a long shotgun. They sound okay. Personally I would go with the Rode NTG1 (about $250) or the Audio-Technica AT897 (about $275). Both short shotguns, they sound good and they're built fairly ruggedly.

    Mic suggestions?

Figure about $600 to $700 by the time you are done. You can get a "complete" kit for about $500, you'll spend another $100 to $200 on the windjammer, cables and headphones. You can make your own boompole with a painters pole or a light bulb changer. That will save you some money...

    Help me! I starting a post-production company....

"On a budget" is a relative term. My "on a budget" audio post facility five years ago was about $20k to build the rooms and $50k for the gear. So give us an idea of your actual budget, it will help with realistic recommendations.

You are more than welcome. As an audio post engineer/sound designer I HATE working with sub-par production sound, so it's one of my missions to encourage solid production sound. questions about production sound

    1. The lo cut switch rolls off the bass/low end, usually at 80hz. This can be a help if you are in a windy situation or near heavy traffic. 2. A limiter puts a ceiling (a top limit, hence the term limiter) on the volume level. This is to assist in preventing volume peak overloads which...
