HOUSE M.D. finale shot on DSLR

I think it's interesting that they are now calling it "digital" instead of "video" because it is a classier moniker. "filmed" is a weird term because it's still called a "short film" even though it's shot on video and music videos are almost all shot on film...

HOUSE M.D. finale shot on DSLR

http://www.gearlog.com/2010/05/house_finale_shot_on_a_dslr.php Just watched the episode and I was floored. I'm a big fan of the show already and they shoot 35mm with Panavision cameras and lenses. In full HD glory, I could not tell this was any different. Of course, they have big time color...

"The enemy of art is the absence of limitations." ~Orson Welles

I agree with this wholeheartedly. Spielberg is at his worst when he has no limitations. When he's under the gun or doing something he doesn't have unlimited cash for, he makes better movies. How we as filmmakers face adversity is what defines us in our choices.

    Film Software and Technologies

Something you could get to help would be integration software between FINAL DRAFT and FINAL CUT. AVID already has a nice plug in for this and ADOBE could benefit from something that allows FINAL DRAFT screenplays to be added to clips as metadata. Is that what you had in mind?

    Cinema History?

They say it isn't necessary to creating movies now. They say that they don't want to be bogged down by rules that don't mean anything, etc. On the one hand, I respect that people don't want to be restricted, but they are without a doubt influenced by what they see, and it was in turn influenced...

    Cinema History?

Some of cinema's greatest cinematographers use paintings as a lighting and color reference more so than other films. In my many discussions with people under 30 starting to make movies, I'm finding fewer and fewer of them know anything about cinema history. A surprising number of people don't...

    Cinema History?

How important is knowing any kind of cinema history? I don't feel it's necessary, but I do feel strongly that I benefit greatly by comprehending the importance of contributions by Edwin S. Porter, D.W. Griffith, Orson Welles, etc. The French New Wave movement came from film critics, who deeply...

Indiana Jones and the saucer men.

Dougie Slacombe was the DP of the original 3 Indiana Jones movies and he was an old school DP THEN (barely hanging in there in his 90's right now), and Spielberg has been using exclusively Janusz Kaminski as his DP since 1997 (and the only movie he hasn't done with Spielberg since 1993 was...

180° rule or not 180° rule???

I tend to want to follow the 180 degree rule in most, but not all situations. The "rule" is more an effective technique than absolute. Orientation for the viewer is all important, at least if you WANT them to be comfortable. If your goal is to disorient them or make them feel something is "off"...
