With the over-saturation of visual media, the few ways to stand out is if you have a name talent attached to your project. A short film with Brad Pitt or Meryl Streep will have a built in audience, and will receive free press but the chances of you or me attaching big names are 0%. Horror is one...
Hello everyone, I am writing this complete guide on how to become an independent filmmaker because I feel like this is something I should have read when I first started out. This is, in other words, a manual I want to give to myself 10 years ago if I could travel back in time.
This will be a...
This is a step by step guide for scheduling your short film. I have successfully used this method for years and have at most been delayed by 2 hours due to unforeseen circumstances or underestimating technical difficulties.
Scheduling is super important because if you do not schedule your...
This is a step by step guide for budgeting your project in the indie or student filmmaking level. I have used this method successfully for 5+ years on all my paid and self-financed projects. Bigger productions use the same method but scaled up with more advanced software, guild fees, tax rebates...
No problem Emily, it was actually a lesson that took me a really long time to learn and they didn't even talk about it in film school. But it's clearly the genesis of all good ideas and a very powerful pitching tool.
Thanks! I used a rode ntg3 good balance between price and quality. Sennheiser 416 is the industry standard though but I wouldn't concentrate too much on specs.
Hi Emily I filmed on a BM pocket 6k, I own all my equipments and slowly built up after the free youth rental institution in my city went bankrupt. It's also cost effective to have great understanding of cinematography, editing and sound mixing so you don't have to rely on someone else to get...

Experience it in 4K HDR on a compatible smartphone like iphone 10 or newer & Samsung s9 or newer. Use...
I've already graduated from film school but I'm still learning. Schools don't really teach you much outside of the technical aspects of filmmaking and most film schools are definitely weak on the financing and distribution side of the process so I would say I'm still learning by doing.
Thanks Oskar I have definitely thought about it and entered some free festivals but I will no longer pay to apply for film festivals when I can market myself through social media and use the funds for gaining global audience. Festivals are fun though if your goal is to network and meet new people.
Thanks Maura, I read an interesting story on Reddit about a tenant who found a shady apartment on craigslist with a creepy landlord who turned out was hiding in his closet. That was the basis of the story and then I borrowed some other ideas from different stories I wrote to create this short film.
Hey guys check out my latest horror short film Beautiful Eyes:

Check out my channel for other horror shorts.
I appreciate all feedback and criticism. I will be realeasing...
