    true but... true but... In L.A. there are tons of student/independent films. Just check the Los Angeles Craig's list. Though many are inexperienced, they offer you tons of opportunities to learn and to practice. The only problem is paying the bills in the meantime.

    XL H1 vs AG-HVX200

    Got an HVX200 a couple weeks ago and haven't put it down (yes, i'm recording the screen from my shoulder mount). Personally, you'll probably be happy with either camera. They're both high quality - but I will put my 2 cents in for the HVX - it truly kicks ass.

    Canon or Sony HD Mini Dv Camera?

    save some more save some more 1000 dollars is a lot of money - but if I were you - I'd save to at least 2000. Then you could get a decent used dvx100 which (imoho), has a pretty kick ass SD picture + 24p. Trust me, it will be worth it.

    Does anyone know of good film schools

    USC all the way. Nearly all the teachers either work in the industry or are friends with professional directors, producers, editors, etc. George Lucas sometimes appears on campus just walking around. Besides, if you want to make movies, LA really has the best resources and most abundant talent.
