Hi people, i need your help, been reading all the forums of what camera to get and im stuck as people recommend either the Canon or the JVC or the Panasonic and now im totally confused. Ill be using the camera for mostly indie short films, perhaps the odd documentary as well but i havent a clue where to turn as they are all good for a certain job. Would love to hear everyones thoughts and hopefully point me in the right direction!!! What would you spend your hard earned $7000 if you were making an indie film???

I could pretty much use it to fund my own 16mm film, but i need to get a camera so that 1) i learn the screen craft and 2) ill be able to use it to build my portfolio!

ADvic eand help much appreciated!! John

If you really have that much money to spend on hardware, I'd get a Canon XLH1 and a good mike to go with it (e.g. Senheisser 416 or MKH60)... I think that's in your price range.

However, you may well be better off with a cheaper camera and a good editing system, if you don't have one already.

I would recomend the Canon XH-Al, not the h1, that is the same camera the only diference is that you have the capability to bordcats, buy some good audio equipment and accessories such as case, ect and your set.

Are you thinking he said the HX-G1? The G1/A1 are very different from the XL-H1, which is a huge camera and is about twice the cost of the A1.

But I'd try and convince you to get a Panasonic HVX-200. Reason being that it shoots 24p nativley to really help get a cinematic quality that the Canon camera's can't really do (they fudge it with 24F, but it's not the same).

Go watch Ryan Vs. Dorkman 2 (http://www.ryanvsdorkman.com) - it was filmed on an HVX-200.
