I'm not exactly sure what you're asking for specifically. From what I can tell you, a Hollywood Sazzle DV Converter has worked wonders for me. I use a Hi8 Analog and I used the dazzle to put video onto iMovies on the Macs art my school. The video and audio quality is great and it works both ways. I plan on getting one for myself instead of using my school's. It is at least $300, but its small, sleek and does the trick. As for archiving, That would be up to your computer. Hope this helps.
