The West Wing is my favorite TV show of all time. Period. Nothing else comes close. I could go on and on about the show, but others do a great job on this, and it is my point here.
With all the West Wing's Emmy Awards, it was really a landmark series. For it to go in the air with a rating of wimps, yes, this is the way it goes sometimes. But quality-wise, the show has rebounded well from depression, which was its fifth season. The real shame here is the lack of extras to watch. When there was no show retroactively until the last episode, NBC blame the players who wanted money for their time. Why was nothing done to John Spencer or better understanding of how death has changed last season is a shame for those who put this package together, obviously on the cheap. And what is with "See other discs for Extra" prompt that is on the six disks? Yes, the episode is quality television, but the product that season 7 is a big disappointment. This show deserves its status, treating it as an afterthought is clearly sad.
I've been a big fan of the show and could not wait to get my hands on the 7th and last season. season very, very moving last. I usually do not care about the bonus material, my expectations are pretty low, but The West Wing season 7T down LOW! No interviews, no looking back over the past seven seasons, and not in the wings, nothing! The bonus is not to watch the debate live from the director's chair (and see snaping fingers every four seconds after aging for half a minute), or to see a decision-making and practice in the live debate. This episode was exciting to be displayed on the TV, not so much on DVD, and it is certainly interesting to watch practice (really kill the legend). Somehow I am not surprised by the lack of bonus material: I do not recall a single season DVD that had some good (and I've seen them all) and do not forget that NBC refused to pay any extra money to have a special program in the last episode last ... It is cheap yes.
