Student feature in an LA coffee shop

I'm looking for a coffee shop in which to shoot a student feature on HDV. Which leads me to my two questions:

Can anyone tell me why the JVC HD 250 (coming in October) is bad for a 24p project shot indoors? Or I guess the counter question would be, is there a better alternative for near the price?

And does anyone have a relative in LA or Ventura in the coffee house/bagel nook/espresso bakery/Starbucks business? I'd shoot off hours, feature the place in festivals and genuinely be grateful.
