situational lighting technique question

How do you light people to look thinner? Younger? Older? What are some techniques or tricks. I have heard vaguely about them here, as in they exist, just hoping someone could elaborate a little more. Thanks.

1) Make-up !

2) Light can help a bit :

Thinner : use silk diffusion

Older : in addition to the make up, a hard contrast light, low key can help

Younger : diffusion filter on the camera might help : Soft FX, Black or white Promist, Low con, even a tight at the bottom of the lens or in front of it is a famous trick, and diffused light of course. All these tricks trying to make the skin look more perfect, with no scars and marks etc. can help
