hi there - another newbie question! What happens if you remove the lens from your Bolex and just shoot into the air, so to speak? Is there an image?
thanks!

Negative...you might be able to notice movement in the form of slight tonal changes, but mostly, it'll just be a lot of nothing...I actually heard a story about someone doing some airiel stuff with a high end video camera, when suddenly the picture just went white. They would occasionally see some kind of movement, but for the most part, it was all a white blur. They landed the helicopter, and found that they no longer had their $16,000+ lens on the camera.

Yowch! Interesting anecdote. Too bad it doesn't work, I guess that explains why pinhole photography is what it is.
thanks!

well, pinhole photography works a little better, b/c it's basically a really small aperture with depth of filed enough to give enough sharpness that the image is recognizable. A lenseless camera' aperture is basically the size of the frame which makes it incredibly out of focus, so you can't tell what you're looking at.
