Project File error

hi guys, I've been having a little trouble with FCP, all of the sudden it tells me that it does not recognize FCP project files (???)...
I can open my project files, but i cannot save my projects, when i try saving a new project or even an old one, it tells me there's a file error and the file is unknown...
its really tough to understand what the problem is, this really puts me in a tough place since i need to finish a film by april 15th, anyone know how i could possibly fix this??

Did you recently upgrade FCP from an earlier version?

nope, i've done nothing like that, really bizarre thing man...

Check to make sure you have not maxed out your memory. JimT
