FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NEW YORK INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY'S 2ND ANNUAL ANIMATION & FILM FESTIVAL
MONDAY, MAY 11 at The NYIT AUDITORIUM ON BROADWAY REFLECTS DIVERSITY
NEW YORK -- The Second Annual NYIT Animation & Film Festival on May 11 promises to reflect an eclectic selection of finalists from the New York Institute of Technology's culturally diverse student body representing both its Manhattan and Old Westbury campuses.
Held at the NYIT Auditorium on Broadway (1871 Broadway, New York, NY 10023), the festival runs 6-9 p.m. and is co-produced by the College of Arts and Sciences' Communication Arts and Fine Arts departments. It is open to the public with no admission charge and no rsvp is required.
"In this year's edition, we will be showcasing talent from the global NYIT community by students from the Middle East and
France and other parts of the world," says Assia Lakhlif, film festival director and professor of film.
This year's slate of short films, including animations, commercials, music videos and short documentaries created by students, alumni and faculty of NYIT from the University's domestic and global campuses is expected to exceed last year's 70-plus entries screened at last year's event.
The festival will be judged by a group of accomplished film and animation industry professionals.
Cash prizes will be awarded for Best Film, Best Cinematography, Best Script, Best BFA Animation, Best MFA Animation, and Best of Show Animation.
New York campus undergraduate Kristin Murphy last year won in the Cinematography category for her short film,
about a man who becomes obsessed with a coworker upon first sight.
\'93The topic allowed me, as the director of photography, to insinuate the darkness and crooked thoughts of the main character,\'94 Murphy
explained. She used a Sony FS700 to shoot the project at a high frame rate to dramatize lighting.\
