Hello everybody -

I'm a 20 year old film enthusiast in Canada. I'm in the process of writing my own original screenplays, interviewing as many of Hollywood-s veterans as I can, while trying to learn about cinematography, editing, sound, etc through workshops, renting equipment, working on student productions, etc. (of course, watching many, MANY films also helps!). I take it very seriously and am committed to it wholeheartedly.

I've been enjoying going through the forums and reading about what other student filmmakers are up to. I always love to see somebody with so much experience helping out those who are just starting out.

I agree that today's young, up and coming filmmakers have some great advantages over previous generations.
However, even with an abundance of resources at our disposal, today's young filmmaker has to remain cautious, and follow their instincts just as early era filmmakers did.

Since the net is accessible to the entire world, a new artistic awareness is being realized, and many indie filmmakers feel competition has increased greatly as a result. Therefore, feelings of uncertainty are still present, and today's young, up and coming filmmakers can often times feel just as lost as the early era filmmakers did.

Yeah, the upside is that making a fairly decent-looking movie is much cheaper than it used to be. The downside is that seperating the good from the bad is much harder than it used to be, with so many cheap movies being made.

Plus there doesn't seem to be a modern equivalent to Roger Corman, who got so many of the major directors and actors of the 70s and 80s into the industry by working on his movies...
