Making a game into a film. Tips on contacting?

Hi, since I'm new to this website, I'll just get right to the point. I want to make a video game that I've played into a motion picture. Can somebody please tell me how I should find out how to contact them? The game already has a book about it, so do you think that it would be a better idea to go to the author first? Please let me know your thoughts.

When it comes to video games, aren't rights distributed very early on? and the projects usually go to the big hollywood studios?

Actually, Uwe Boll is currently buying up most video game rights (other than the big names that Hollywood are buying) and turning them into bad movies...
