I can't capture anamorphic NTSC DV on my Final Cut 5

My problem is that when I use the default capture preset for NTSC DV - Anamorpic, it does convert the anamorphic image to letterbox in the capture window, but it doesn't actually make it letterbox. After I'm done capturing a clip and open it up in the viewfinder, it is still anamorphic and not letterbox. I tried changing a few settings, but nothing works. I am very confused because I used the same NTSC DV - Anamorphic capture preset with the same settings, and I had no problem at all. Other than this problem, I love Final Cut 5, but this small problem is driving me nuts. It must be something in the settings I need to change that I'm not understanding. If anyone out there can help me with my problem, I would be forever grateful. Please help me be4 I lose my mind. Thanks.

I'm using FCP 4.5 (jealous) but I'm pretty sure this should work:

Go to "Sequence" menu and scroll down to "Settings..."

Make sure that "16:9 BOX" has a check mark (?). Whether it does or whether it doesn't, change the current setting and see how this affects the clip when you place it into the timeline.

My suspicion is this: Final Cut Pro V.5 now works with NATIVE 16:9 footage...meaning, you won't see your beautiful anamorphic video SQUASHED inside of a 4:3 (standard) frame. However, when opening the clips, you should be able to view it in 16:9 (not anamorphic). Maybe FCP 5 has another window to adjust settings for the clips now? :)

Best of luck to you!
