Hand Held Camera Technique(Homicide: Life on the Street.)

I hear that ‘Homicide: Life on the Street’ was the first TV programme to use hand held camera work during filming. Does anyone know if this is the case or anything about it? It was on in the nineties so I didn’t manage to catch it but I’ve heard its out on DVD at the end of the month.
