getting an agent

I know that in order to pitch your movies to production companies, you would need an agent to manage that. How could we get an agent, and could we ever get to pitch to production companies without the help with agents and how could we do that?

In this business, it's not what you know but WHO you know... and who THEY know... and who THEY know... and so on and so forth. Just start asking friends and family if they know anybody out in Los Angeles or New York or if they know somebody in television and film. Hit the pavement, kids!

Secondly, trying to get a meeting with a production company without an agent is difficult. It has been done before, but more out of luck than anything the film makers actually did. Go for it! Be creative. But, my only caveat: Hope for the best, prepare yourself for the worst.

Agent and stuff

Agent and stuff

Actually these days, the only way to get an agent is AFTER you produce a film -- that goes on to win awards at festivals. So concentrate on making your film FIRST, before you go out and try to get an agent. Take it from me, I used to work at the William Morris Agency!

By the way, why would you be approaching prod companies and which ones were you thinking of?

well actually right now I have a developed concept and script for a feature film, but right now I'm only a college student where my enviroment and financial situation would not really allow me to carry out the project, in which I think pitching it to some production company outside would definitely work. ( the story have gotten too complicated for any low-budget production).

Right now I'm trying to make parts of the film, but I am defeinitely not able to finish the whole thing with the current resources I have now.

So what should I do now in order to pitch it to some company ( I only know that most people would find an agent to do that)

Actually one of the best resourcs for looking up production companies in the Hollywood Creative Directory. They might have a copy in your local library. If not, you can go to www.hollywoodcreativedirectory.com to see where you can obtain a copy.

In it they list all the production companies, who the development esecs are, etc. -- and you can contact them directly wiht your pitch. Be aware though that many of these will no 'no unsolicited ideas' in which case you skip them and go on to the next!

Best of luck!

Thank You! That was useful!

just one thing: I clicked into the website, and found that most of the stuff that comes out are advertisements, and I can't find the information of the production companies, and also where to obtain a copy of that......

so where should I specifically go on the website to find the info of the production companies? Thanks!
