Welcome to Student Filmmakers Forums.

This forum exists so people interested in filmmaking and video can ask questions, share experiences, and learn from one another.

Our goal is to keep discussions focused, respectful, and useful for everyone who participates.

Why We Require Real Names (Starting in 2026)

This requirement is for:
  • Promoting accountability in discussions
  • Reducing disruptive or bad-faith behavior
  • Encouraging thoughtful questions and answers
  • Respecting the time of members who volunteer their knowledge

In the past, fake or anonymous names have sometimes been used to derail conversations, argue without purpose, or repeatedly disrupt discussions. This makes it harder for real people to learn and for knowledgeable members to help.

Using your real first and last name helps keep conversations grounded and productive by reminding everyone there is a real person behind each post.

1) Real Names Are Required


As of 2026, all members must register and post using their real first and last name.
  • No fake names
  • No handles or aliases
  • No joke or role-play names
If a username does not appear to be a real name, moderators may request more validating information and that it be updated before posting continues.

2) Notice for Existing (Legacy) Members


Members who joined before 2026 are still welcome and valued.

Before making new posts, legacy members must update their profile to reflect their real first and last name.

This helps ensure consistent rules for all members and clearer accountability in discussions.

If you need help updating your name, please contact a moderator.

3) What to Post About


Appropriate topics include:
  • Filmmaking and video questions
  • Cameras, audio, lighting, and production gear
  • Editing, color, sound, and workflow tools
  • Experiences with production companies, services, or products
  • Practical advice and learning resources
Questions are welcome. Disruptive behavior is not.

4) Discussion Expectations


Please:
  • Stay on topic
  • Be respectful, even when disagreeing
  • Avoid personal attacks or intentional disruption
  • Contribute in a way that helps the discussion move forward

Many professional members participate here to share knowledge and experience. Please respect their time and effort.

5) Politics and Religion


Political and religious debates are not permitted on this forum.

There are many other websites and communities dedicated to those discussions. Please use those spaces for political or religious arguments.

Student Filmmakers Forums exists to focus on filmmaking, video production, tools, workflows, and creative learning. Posts that attempt to shift discussions toward politics or religion may be removed so conversations can stay on topic.

These rules exist to support clear, focused, and constructive discussion.

They do not guarantee individual behavior or outcomes, and participation in the forum is at your own discretion.
